Convinced that the goal of education was to prepare young people to play their role in a new, progressive society, Paulus and Edith rejected the influence of the urban world and the prevailing values of German society. At the same time they were deeply involved in the world wide effort to promote a new concept of education in the spirit of Ellen Key.
